Project Progress Highlights

December 2022 - Storm sewer installation is underway at the north end of the corridor. Crews are installing manholes, inlets, and pipeline along northbound Wadsworth north of 46th Avenue. Periodic side street closures and temporary access modifications are necessary while the new storm sewer system is placed underground.

The contractor reconstructed the northbound Wadsworth to eastbound I-70/I-76 on-ramp in early December. In the coming weeks, concrete paving will continue from north to south along Wadsworth.

Reconstructing the intersection of Wadsworth and 44th Avenue is a major part of the Wadsworth Improvement Project. Underground utility work near the intersection requires frequent traffic shifts and lane closures. Once utility relocations are out of the way, the contractor will start constructing surface improvements for the continuous flow intersection (CFI).

The contractor installed the new sanitary sewer system underneath Wadsworth from 3 Acre Lane to 48th Avenue. Water line and storm sewer work will continue through fall. After months of working on utility improvements underground, several things are taking shape above ground too. The contractor placed curb and gutter and asphalt paving in the 48th Avenue cul-de-sac east of Wadsworth.

The project is in the process of replacing old infrastructure – some dating back to the 1950s! The corridor is undergoing a major overhaul and your continued patience traveling through the work zone is appreciated.

Project Overview

This project includes modernizing and improving Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to I-70 with efficient and safe intersection designs, safer entrances and exits for vehicles accessing businesses, a continuous sidewalk on the west, and a bike/pedestrian path on the east side of Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to the Clear Creek Trail.

The current project is primarily between 41st Avenue north to I-70. Several improvements between 41st Avenue and 35th Avenue are included. The project will construct a new safe and efficient intersection at 44th Avenue called a continuous flow intersection (CFI). The CFI makes the best use of land for maximum traffic flow, while prioritizing safety. The current project is expected to be complete in summer 2024.

  • Travel Alert (WORK RESCHEDULED): Northbound Wadsworth on-ramp to I-70/I-76 planned closure

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The northbound Wadsworth Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound I-70/I-76 will close from 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, pending final approval. During the multi-day full closure, the ramp entrance will be reconstructed in concrete pavement.

Several weeks of construction impacts and lane width restrictions will be eliminated by performing the ramp work under a full closure. The closure will allow crews to safely pour the entire ramp at once. The contractor will work both day and night shifts and over the weekend to complete the work.

A detour route will be provided, and alternate routes are advised. The detour will direct drivers to continue north on Wadsworth, turn right (east) on 52nd Avenue, and continue 1.5 miles to Sheridan Boulevard to access I-70 to the south or I-76 to the north. A suggested alternate route is 44th Avenue to Sheridan Boulevard.

Message boards along the corridor will provide closure schedule information. All work is weather-dependent, and the construction schedule is subject to change.
