Project Progress Update - November 2024

Image showing construction is 75 percent complete

The Wadsworth Improvement Project remains on schedule, with completion expected by spring of 2026 and active construction finishing by late 2025.

Additional work was added, such as permanent improvements at the 38th Avenue intersection and extending the work to the original southern limits at 35th Avenue. This was announced in the fall of 2023 and will ensure long-term cost savings and benefits.

Today, over 75% of the project is complete, including all northbound traffic lanes on concrete pavement. Major underground utility work is wrapping up, and we're nearing completion of the concrete paving for the southbound lanes, which may finish ahead of schedule.

Project Overview

This project includes modernizing and improving Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to I-70 with efficient and safe intersection designs, safer entrances and exits for vehicles accessing businesses, a continuous sidewalk on the west, and a bike/pedestrian path on the east side of Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to the Clear Creek Trail.

The project will construct a new safe and efficient intersection at 44th Avenue called a continuous flow intersection (CFI). The CFI makes the best use of land for maximum traffic flow, while prioritizing safety. A second CFI will be installed at 38th Avenue. The project is expected to be complete in spring 2026.

TRAVEL ALERT: Southbound Wadsworth Boulevard lanes will split around a work zone for approximately three weeks starting Nov. 25

Starting the morning of Monday, Nov. 25, the two southbound Wadsworth Boulevard travel lanes will split around a work zone from the eastbound Interstate 70 off-ramp to 47th Avenue. Southbound drivers must pick a lane when approaching the traffic split south of I-70.

The traffic split will be in place for approximately 1,000 feet. This temporary lane configuration is necessary for approximately three weeks while the contractor works in the median area at the north end of the Wadsworth work zone. Daily lane closures are expected on northbound Wadsworth during this work operation.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, southbound Wadsworth will be reduced to a single lane overnight (until 6 a.m. on Monday) so crews can move traffic into the new alignment.

Progress updates will be posted on this web page. All work is weather-dependent. Any schedule changes will be posted on message boards approaching the work area.
