38th Avenue Main Street Refresh (Sheridan to Wadsworth)
Project Description
This project will advance the long-term vision of 38th Avenue as Wheat Ridge’s Main Street by enhancing safety, connectivity, and placemaking between Sheridan and Wadsworth Boulevards.
The corridor has been identified as a redevelopment priority for more than a decade. The 2011 38th Avenue Corridor Plan established a vision for transforming the area into a vibrant, walkable destination. Since then, the city has made significant investments, including roadway improvements, streetscape enhancements, zoning updates, intersection reconstruction, and construction of The Green at 38th.
The Main Street Refresh builds on these investments and moves the community closer to achieving its long-term vision for the corridor.
Approximately $10 million in 2J Next Chapter funding has been allocated to the project. Conceptual design is underway and focuses on enhancing pedestrian connectivity, lighting, landscaping, and the overall Main Street experience while preserving the existing roadway.
Community Support
Community support for a more walkable, vibrant 38th Avenue has been consistently reinforced through public outreach efforts over the past decade, including the Let’s Talk Resident Engagement Program, the Wheat Ridge Prosperity Plan, and the 2025 City Plan.
During City Plan engagement, 78% of respondents agreed that continuing to develop 38th Avenue as Wheat Ridge’s Main Street should be a priority. Residents also emphasized the importance of placemaking improvements such as enhanced sidewalks, street trees, lighting, crosswalks, public gathering spaces, and other pedestrian-focused amenities.
The Prosperity Plan echoed these priorities, highlighting strong community support for additional local businesses, walkable commercial districts, and continued investment along key corridors such as 38th Avenue.
