The current playground at Fruitdale Park

In 2026, the Parks and Recreation department will be replacing playgrounds at Fruitdale Park and Prospect Park. Concept options, within budget, have been collected from three playground vendors and we are looking for community feedback on which playground option to move forward with. Please see the options below and consider completing the short survey and or leaving additional comments. Thank you!

How to Share Your Thoughts
  1. Take one or both surveys to share feedback on the three concepts we received from playground vendors.
  2. Have a great idea you don't see represented in any of the concepts? Add it to the idea board for either park.
  3. Do you have a question we can address? Ask it in the question forum, and we'll get back to you.

    Hello,

Thank you for bringing this topic up. The 2023-adopted Open Space Management Plan designates Lewis Meadows as a Conservation Zone, which has the following description:

"This zone includes Lewis Meadows and has the highest value for flora and fauna when viewed at both the community and landscape level. Recreational uses should be restricted to designated trails. All trailheads and access points should include education, interpretation, and regulatory information. Significant effort should be made to reclaim and revegetate social trails in this zone."

You can see the full Plan here, with the zone descriptions on pages 80-81: https://rootedinfun.com/203/Reports-Plans

So, given that designation, at this time there are no plans to further develop Lewis Meadows beyond the current trails and flora management. If you'd like to discuss this further, please contact Brandon Altenburg at baltenburg@wheatridge.gov or 303-231-1307.

Thank you again for your engagement and for bringing this topic up,

    -Brandon Altenburg

Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation
