TRAVEL ALERT:

38th Avenue closed west of Wadsworth Boulevard from Jan. 27 to Feb. 17

Major construction activity is planned at the Wadsworth Boulevard/38th Avenue intersection. Starting at 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, direct access to and from 38th Avenue west of Wadsworth Boulevard will be closed for three weeks through Monday, Feb. 17. Since construction activities are highly dependent on weather conditions this time of year, this schedule is subject to change.

This safety closure is necessary while the contractor places new concrete pavement across 38th Avenue. Detouring traffic away from the west leg of the intersection will save several weeks of phased traffic restrictions and access modifications. Eastbound 38th Avenue west of Wadsworth Boulevard may remain closed for up to one additional week.

38th Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Wadsworth Boulevard and Yukon Court. The vehicle detour routes are either 32nd Avenue or 44th Avenue to Kipling Street. 38th Avenue business access and all side streets will remain open from the west side of the closure at Yukon Court. Pedestrian access will be provided. RTD has posted service alerts for bus route 38 during the closure.

38th Avenue east of Wadsworth Boulevard will remain open during the partial intersection closure. All westbound 38th Avenue traffic approaching the intersection must turn north (right) or south (left) at the Wadsworth traffic signal. A similar configuration was in place last year when the east side of 38th Avenue was reconstructed.

A continuous flow intersection (CFI) is under construction at Wadsworth Boulevard/38th Avenue. The CFI makes the best use of land for maximum traffic flow, while prioritizing safety. More information on CFIs and planned corridor improvements can be found on the project web page.

During the intersection work, progress updates will be posted at https://whatsupwheatridge.com/improve-wadsworth. All work is weather-dependent. Any schedule changes will be posted on message boards approaching the work area.
