ADA Transition Plan
As a city, we are taking an important step forward in advancing accessibility by developing a comprehensive Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. The final plan will document existing conditions, identify barriers to accessibility, prioritize needed improvements, and establish a coordinated path forward. As part of the planning process, the project team will evaluate accessibility at city facilities, parks, and within public rights-of-way. This effort brings together all accessibility plans completed over the past decade into a single, unified strategy. By consolidating this work, the City is creating a stronger, more coordinated roadmap that not only addresses existing barriers but also positions Wheat Ridge for a more inclusive and accessible future.
How to Participate
Throughout the planning process, we want to hear from you! Seniors, people with disabilities, families, business owners, and anyone who cares about accessibility in the community will have opportunities to share their experiences, priorities, and concerns.
Open House
Join us on Wednesday, June 3 at the Active Adult Center (6363 W 35th Avenue) to provide input. The event is an open house with no formal presentation, so you are welcome to stop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
We'll do our best to make the event as accessible as possible. If you'd like to request any specific accommodations, please contact our ADA Coordinator Kelly McLaughlin (ada@wheatridge.gov or 303-235-2885) by May 27.
Online Activities
Unable to join us in person? Don't worry! To make participation as accessible as possible, online engagement opportunities will also be offered through June 30 on this project page. This approach ensures that anyone who wants to be heard has a chance to participate, regardless of schedule, mobility, or other barriers.
To share your feedback you can:
- Take the survey, which is great for sharing in-depth feedback on accessibility in Wheat Ridge
- Pin accessibility barriers on the map, which is great for sharing exact locations of barriers you've experienced.
- Complete both!
These online activities mirror the format and questions we will ask at the open house event, so feel free to complete these exercises online or join us in person.
