About the Project

Bike Jeffco, the Wheat Ridge Active Transportation Advisory Team, and the City are collaborating on the 2024 Safe Routes to Parks Activating Communities Program. During this nine-month program, the Safe Routes Partnership will work with the coalition to provide technical assistance and analysis that will lead to recommendations aimed to improve pedestrian and cyclist travel to local parks and green spaces. This work is partly informed by the Let's Talk program, the Bike/Ped Master Plan, the Open Space Management Plan, and sub-area plans like the recent 44th Ave Sub-Area Plan. There will be opportunities for public engagement on the current state of routes to parks in Wheat Ridge, deciding on an early implementation activity to complete, and completing an Action Plan for future work.

9/14 Community Paint Day-Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed for a Community Paint Day at Fruitdale Park from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, September 14th. The group will be painting asphalt art at the intersection of W. 47th Ave and Miller Street and at three no parking areas adjacent to the crosswalk near Mountain Phoenix Community School. We will be using traffic paint, which is hard to remove from clothing, so if you are attending please wear "grungy" clothes that you wouldn't mind paint getting on. Paint, painting supplies, food, and drinks will all be provided. More information along with concept art for the no-parking areas are below. If you'd like to volunteer, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C4EAAAB22A0F94-50426060-91424

Safe Routes to Parks Potential Projects Map

9 months
  • The green pins show the 2 finalist project sites under consideration by the Safe Routes to Parks coalition.
  • The blue pins represent 2 additional project sites that were considered by the coalition, but were eliminated from consideration for specific reasons (these locations still could be considered for future 2J improvement funding).
  • The red pins can be dropped by any logged-in community user to identify other areas in Wheat Ridge that could be improved for the purpose of creating safer routes to parks.
